Colour: Dark inky purple,  burgundy  rim, halo of transparency, long legs.

Nose: Muted, but budding bramble and blackberry.

Tasting Note: Much better than the nose would suggest, rounded, good fruit, good mid palate and good finish, very solid wine quintessential Bordeaux, very pleasing.

du Tertre 2003

March 29th, 2010

Drank: Dec  2007

Rating: 233

Colour: Purple, hints of lilac as its poured, settles to a rich burgundy colour, large halo of transparency, looks forward, long legs.

Nose: Burgundy nose, i.e. spice box, vanilla and medicinal notes, all underpinned by blackcurrant.  Interesting nose, reminds me of Montrose 2001.

Tasting Note: Full bodied, lovely, class and classic wine, round and fat, glycerine, soft tannins, but does have backbone and grip, rich and much better than you would imagine, from a hot and spicy aroma.   Very, very good wine.

Colour: Purple, large burgundy edge, large halo of transparency, looks ready now.

Nose: Gentle rather than closed, hints of blackcurrant and floral notes, budding bramble, with a lot of air, overripe fruit.

Tasting Note: Soft fruit, just hints of bramble, soft tannins, easy drinking, but thin, disappointing against the rest of the 2000 vintage, comes together latter on, touch acidic.

Ducru – Beaucaillou 2001

February 28th, 2010

Region: St Julien

Drank: June  2007

Rating: 238

Cost: F

Colour: Blackcurrant, but on the red side, tends towards burgundy, especially towards the rim.

Nose: Red and blackcurrant fruit, sweet hint of jam even glucose, floral.

Tasting Note: Clean, fresh, delicious, finish well defined of blackcurrant tannin.  A certain roundness, quintessentially Bordeaux.  Hints of glycerine, gets gently better with each glass.  Grows on you, not too tannic, but some grip and backbone, but not so great as to overpower the wine.  Drinks well and finishes well.
